hohoho! gladdi-o here! so wtf, the girls started some rumor about me having a baby or some craziness. just because i got caught in the basement with Hans (hottttt male bust form. no brain but his body is slammin) doesn't mean we were makin bacon, you know what i'm sayin? why am i talkin all gangsta? because hos. it goes with the new ghetto booty that i acquired over the past few months from not being pregnant. don't make Hans bust out his glock and make me get caught like some innocent former fly girl with a bad-a@# boyfriend. my name is gladdi-o so go wit it.
omg, people! back to why i'm writing and back to being the valley girl that you know and love! speaking of love, i love christmas! i was just thinking about christmas in july and then i noticed that someone else apparently loves christmas as well because allllll of Hertel avenue is decorated in anticipation of Santa and cookies and of course, presents! it's so perfect, it's on the same street as the store! i feel like the luckiest gal in the world! it's like someone's reading my mind! or maybe i'm psychic! either way, yay!!!
wow, so okay, i need to get a frozen hot chocolate and do some shopping. and so do you! just like last year, you're going to need a holiday dress. strapless is always good in this heat. there just happen to be some cute ones at mod/nos. plus, oh my god, becky. the sale rack is on sale AND is an additional 50% off. let's get to it!
also, this weekend (meaning thursday through sunday) for the christmas in july special, the girls wanted me to tell you that there is an additional 15% off your entire purchase. so get your bum in gear and get here for the celebra....wait, what? the girls are trying to tell me that there's some festival for Italians this weekend and not for christmas celebrators?!? i'm so confused because the whole street is like red, white and green with like strings of lights and i thought that meant christmas but apparently it means Italians. whatev, to me it's christmas in july!
peace...

tough yet beautiful
i bet you've been wondering where we've been lately. there's this thing call "facebook" that has taken over here at mod/nos and old-fashioned blogging got pushed to the wayside. however, staying true to our roots of bringing old back to new, we are having another go at this blogging thing...
you've also been wondering where good ol' gladys has been. apparently the combination of the move from city to suburbs and being attached to a baby store made gladys' clock tick and *poof* out of nowhere gladys was baking a bun in her oven. she hid the baby bump from us for awhile and we thought the constant hopping on her footless feet to the bathroom was all part of some weird purging thing she was going through because we thought she was packing on a few LBs but then we put two and two together and Bri mentioned to me that she caught gladys in the basement one morning with one of the male bust forms that we are keeping for a *fingers-crossed* men's store and then it allllll made sense. to make a long story short, gladys is on maternity leave and that is why she has been out of commission for quite some time. with our old model gone, the search for a new one was on. you may have seen her on our facebook page but here she is again. we rather like her and hopefully she is here to stay. so here we have it, the blog debut of our first flesh-and-blood model:

no lungs were harmed in the shooting of these photos. it's all for show because people who smoke cigarettes and work on their bikes are all hardcore or something. "tough yet beautiful." "don't mess with me but kiss my faux cigarette breath mouth and then i might try to punch you afterwards but who knows, maybe i won't..." this is all part of the allure of the mod/nos girl.
scarf : $30
vintage Gucci sunglasses : $220

v-day stands for *victorious* in this case
too many negative words to describe how we all feel about this holiday. regardless if you have a honey or not, you still feel bad for some reason. you're stressed because you're not bikini body ready yet so lingerie is out, you can't cook or bake, lap dance class is not quite a last minute option which leads to disappointment, or you just plain feel awful for those who don't have someone to appreciate and love on this ridiculous day dedicated to *being in love.* it's a prejudiced holiday and i'm angered just talking to you about it.
ok, i took a few minutes to do some breathing and now i'm over being a brat because i came up with the best idea to get over the impending doom of alone-tine's day: buy yourself or a dear friend who listens to you weap about your lack of love an *i-love-you/me* gift. suggestions? i happen to have a few:
1. house of harlow ring

specifically this one because it nestles in snugly on the middle finger.
2. sweet lingerie

no, you do not have to be a VS model to wear the charming cami and panty sets we have at mod/nos. what's the difference between this and that? i'll tell you...
last night i happened to catch a late 70s/80s (?) version of real sex and there was this woman teaching some workshop to ladies about being a slut vs. a goddess. it was quite the episode and if you missed it then you should go to the library asap and rent the vhs because basically it's a great pick-me-up. in a nutshell, you can make questionable decisions the entire time you're in your 20s and then *poof* you switch over to goddess and everything that you did in the past is erased because now you wear belly dancing and cleopatra outfits and stand around in a circle with other former sluts and do some intense breathing where things that you never knew could happen *do* and all of a sudden Madam Former Slut decides "that's enough for today" and now you are granted with the power of seduction even if you still choose to hide behind those crazy librarian glasses that cover your entire face or made poor choices the past 20 years at the beauty parlor. yes, ladies, this is what the 70s and sexiness is all about. so come get your (tame) version of goddessness and dance in your underwear in front of the mirror in the comfort of your own home and feel great this v-day about becoming a goddess (or a slut if that's where you are at this particular point in your life).
well, that's enough suggestions for now. you win this valentine's day. and technically, you now owe me for the free advice but we'll call it even if you come visit us this weekend. if you're lucky we'll throw in some breathing techniques, gratis. you're welcome.
oh, p.s. the cami sets come in six different color combos, all available at mod/nos, just in case the pink one is mocking you too much.

stand-in babies: the newest accessory for spring
my friend andrea just had a baby and it occurred to me last night that i don't think she really gave birth. there's something about the baby pictures that are not quite right. like, they're too perfect and if i know andrea, her body is back to it's its-bits size that it was nine months ago. so i decided that it's not really her baby. it's a stand-in baby. she was wearing one of those fake hollywood tummies for nine months, which i'm referring to as a *hollywood tummy* because it's beyond obvious now that heidi klum did not in fact carry all those children the entire time while filming project runway seasons 3, 4, 5, 6 etc. all she did was un-velcro her fake tummy and voila...slammin' boby asap. andrea and heidi are fooling no one and this is my attempt to out them but also thank them because it's the most genius idea ever: stand-in babies as the hottest spring accessory for 2011.
once you have rented your baby, you need to dress the part. that's where mod/nos comes in.

layering is a must right now with this brutally cold weather. at the same time, sneak some spring pieces into your wardrobe, like this amazing striped sweater layered over a basic white button down and an adorable grey cotton blazer. pair it with black leggings (available at mod/nos) or denim and *poof* you have the perfect outfit to go with your stand-in baby. (it's also a great outfit for looking bad-ass when standing in front of a wall full of graffiti. with a rental baby, of course).
i'm not sure where you get said *stand-in babies* but i have facebooked both ms. klum and andrea to find out where i can rent one. i haven't heard back from them yet but i kinda want to borrow andrea's because according to the baby pictures, all hers does is sleep which in my mind is really the best thing one of these little angels could do. plus she's really cute and if i'm going to accessorizing my every move with another human being i would want it to be with Lucia the incredible stand-in baby.

best-outfit-Bri-pulled-together-from-having-nothing-in-the-store-award
how could you not want this outfit?

a. it's so unexpected with the combination of the silk printed top with the tunic sweater (by preloved which means it's made from recycled sweaters).
b. it's warm because it involves a sweater.
c. it's kinda bad-ass, no? or maybe it's the brick wall. either way, it's all very standing-in-line-in-a-dark-alley to me. she just needs a cigarette and a double-finger ring that looks like brass knuckles and she's all set.
d. Gladys gives it four and a half dress forms.
