Greek Fest/Art Festival Sale( GreArt Sale)

Gladys (the mannequin) is so fond of her Greek heritage. she was just sharing stories with Bri and me about playing with her 23 cousins named Nick and Alex in the front and back yards amongst ceramic sculptures. every time she looks in the mirror and sees the porcelain skin on her headless body, she is reminded of these fun times. over a plate of baklava, Bri was inspired to do a sale in honor of Gladys' genetic origin. it just so happens that the Greek Fest is this weekend, but the inspiration does indeed come from Gladys, not from the festival. but i can see how you could be confused. i promise though, it's just a big coincidence. but thennnnn....Bri was thinking that since the Greeks are big art lovers, we should just extend the sale until after the Allentown Art Festival. you can see how the two tie together so well. the GreArt Sale is as follows:

*starts Friday, June 4th and ends Sunday, June 13th.
*sale merchandise (clothing and jewelry) is buy one, get one 50% off
*all regular priced merchandise is 10% your entire purchase

Opa!

handbag heaven

literally, where is gladys going. i came into the store this morning all refreshed after my spray tan and i caught this sneaky mannequin on her way out the door, trying to wander around Allentown like some sort of bag lady. literally. i was all like, "dude, girl, put a shirt on. you're going to get arrested." and she was like, "i'm peacin' out of here with your new recycled leather and eco-friendly bags." and i was like, "i can see that." and she was like, "it gets lonely here at night." and i was like, "but gladys, you're shoulder isn't even attached properly. you're going to be the worst bag lady ever when you can't even support the bags on your broken-down arm." and she was like, "fine, i'll stay. maybe if you sell these amazing bags you can afford to pay me someday. but if you don't i'm stealing a shopping cart and all your bags for realz and walking down to Florida like all the other bums do in the winter." so i was all, "fine, that's fair. now put on a shirt and stand in the corner like a good girl." but first, i made her let me document her shenanigans to show her how silly her idea was. and then i figured i might as well turn it into a blog post and share with our dear friends.

wow, the PowerShot combined with the natural lighting really captured the true beauty of these gems. anyhow, handbag heaven is now in effect at modern/nostalgia. gladys took this term literally and thought she was the lead angel. but she's not. she just looks ridiculous trying to wear every bag at once. but one bag at a time...you've got yourself a great conversation piece. like the grey little number around her neck. normally worn on a different appendage, it doubles as a shoulder bag and clutch, upon removing the strap. this particular one is made from recycled leather and has a neat-o clasp.

but wait. i still didn't trust gladdy. and my instincts were correct. nestled inside the asymmetrical zipper eco-friendly satchel was this:

the last flower coin purse. this is going on the report.

if Easter eggs could be purses...

no, i'm not confused. Easter happened over a month ago. but it's such a happy time, isn't it? a giant bunny sneaks into your house at night and not only hides eggs with money or candy in them, he also leaves a basket filled with goodies. he doesn't creepily watch you all year long, making a list and determining if he should show or not. when you misbehaved, there were never any threats from your parents pertaining to the bunny's arrival. you could act like the biggest jerk all year round and still bank on E Bunz and his treasures. AND, there were never any threats of coal, unlike the undesirable lumps that the loser up at the North Pole would sometimes leave. unless you were perfect. like me. i never received coal. well maybe twice. but it doesn't matter because Mr. Bunz always took care of me. like today. arriving at the store today was like going on an Easter Egg hunt. i found many handbags, including these little gems...

don't they look like little Easter Eggs, all huddled together, just waiting to be opened? i kinda want to put them all in a basket and hop away. but i won't. i'll share them with all of you. well, five of you. and the ONLY difference between eggs and these coin purses that could double as a going-out clutch is what treasures go into them. that is up to you, dear reader. i'll tell you what you WON'T be putting into one of these...lots of money. because you can basically pay for one of these eggs with peanuts. at $35 a pop, they're a steal. you can thank E Bunz later.

p.s. peanuts not accepted at modern/nostalgia

the bazaar

last night i dreamt of jewels. draped in beautiful, silk garbs, i flowed through the narrow streets, surrounded by exotic people and expensive treasures. every corner i turned, there was amazing jewelry being thrown my way. they wanted me to have it all. it was a girls dream, literally. we're talking beautiful statement pieces made of silver and gold and pieces with intricate beading that will forever remind one of the glamorous time spent at the Persian market. being forced to indulge, i ornamented myself with as many bracelets and necklaces that my body could support, thinking the whole time of our modern/nostalgia customer....

but the dream ended. however, the fantasy didn't. upon opening the heavy door at 95 Allen this morning, i realized the bazaar had moved itself from the Middle East to Buffalo. we are blanketed in unique pieces that are reminiscent of an exotic vacation...maybe to Abu Dhabi? only one way to find out...

western wear

isn't this top great? made of silk, it has double chest pockets and a small adjustable belt on the back so you can cinch it and wear it fitted, or let it flow loosely for a little more of a casual look. the off-white color is amazing and the rope pattern is really fun. if i were to go to a western-themed wedding, i'd rock this shirt with a brown fringe belt, Frye boots and top it off with a hot cowboy hat. funny i should mention a fringe belt, i totally have one in mind:

to feel like a true cowgirl, i would add some nostalgia with this vintage gold necklace:

ok, i'm going to stop playing make-believe now. my friend Shanna who lives in Cali has a western-themed wedding to go to this summer and asked us to help style her. ironically, we just received a shipment which contained this silk top. now we need to vote...

ride 'em cowgirl!, or, pass the buck?

Nikki's picks

it's official. we had a vote here at 95 Allen Street, and based on my amazing writing skills and my insane ability with the Canon Powershot, i have proven myself as modern/nostalgia's blogger. the prize is my own section called "Nikki's picks." basically, it will be my favorite things in the store on a particular day when the stars align and an amazing outfit, idea, etc is born. featured here is Gladys, looking sassy in today's picks:

the main attraction is this retro patterned shirt that arrived yesterday. it reminds me of an acid trip that i have never taken. and never will. but from what i've heard you can taste colors. just like this juicy shirt.

holding up my favorite denim, the AG Premiere, is this snakeskin inspired belt. i want it. we only have one and if you don't buy it, then i will. this belt is really amazing. not only is it made from vintage leather, it is very versatile and has multiple holes, as it can be adjusted to fit around your hips or your waist.

yes, you've seen this purse recently. peeking out from under Gladys' arm is the vintage fabric clutch that made a cameo last week. or the week before. scroll down a couple postings and you'll see it. either way, this clutch is fab and goes very well with this ensemble.

last but not least is this necklace. why is this necklace still in the store? if someone doesn't buy it soon, i will. that's both a threat and a promise. this necklace is not only Nikki's pick, it's also Brianne's pick. that's very important and you needed to know that.

*Gladys can be seen standing in the right window at modern/nostalgia. however, she is trying to get the day off tomorrow. if you need an up-close and personal visual, i highly recommend coming to see her today.
