the bazaar

last night i dreamt of jewels. draped in beautiful, silk garbs, i flowed through the narrow streets, surrounded by exotic people and expensive treasures. every corner i turned, there was amazing jewelry being thrown my way. they wanted me to have it all. it was a girls dream, literally. we're talking beautiful statement pieces made of silver and gold and pieces with intricate beading that will forever remind one of the glamorous time spent at the Persian market. being forced to indulge, i ornamented myself with as many bracelets and necklaces that my body could support, thinking the whole time of our modern/nostalgia customer....

but the dream ended. however, the fantasy didn't. upon opening the heavy door at 95 Allen this morning, i realized the bazaar had moved itself from the Middle East to Buffalo. we are blanketed in unique pieces that are reminiscent of an exotic vacation...maybe to Abu Dhabi? only one way to find out...

western wear

isn't this top great? made of silk, it has double chest pockets and a small adjustable belt on the back so you can cinch it and wear it fitted, or let it flow loosely for a little more of a casual look. the off-white color is amazing and the rope pattern is really fun. if i were to go to a western-themed wedding, i'd rock this shirt with a brown fringe belt, Frye boots and top it off with a hot cowboy hat. funny i should mention a fringe belt, i totally have one in mind:

to feel like a true cowgirl, i would add some nostalgia with this vintage gold necklace:

ok, i'm going to stop playing make-believe now. my friend Shanna who lives in Cali has a western-themed wedding to go to this summer and asked us to help style her. ironically, we just received a shipment which contained this silk top. now we need to vote...

ride 'em cowgirl!, or, pass the buck?

Nikki's picks

it's official. we had a vote here at 95 Allen Street, and based on my amazing writing skills and my insane ability with the Canon Powershot, i have proven myself as modern/nostalgia's blogger. the prize is my own section called "Nikki's picks." basically, it will be my favorite things in the store on a particular day when the stars align and an amazing outfit, idea, etc is born. featured here is Gladys, looking sassy in today's picks:

the main attraction is this retro patterned shirt that arrived yesterday. it reminds me of an acid trip that i have never taken. and never will. but from what i've heard you can taste colors. just like this juicy shirt.

holding up my favorite denim, the AG Premiere, is this snakeskin inspired belt. i want it. we only have one and if you don't buy it, then i will. this belt is really amazing. not only is it made from vintage leather, it is very versatile and has multiple holes, as it can be adjusted to fit around your hips or your waist.

yes, you've seen this purse recently. peeking out from under Gladys' arm is the vintage fabric clutch that made a cameo last week. or the week before. scroll down a couple postings and you'll see it. either way, this clutch is fab and goes very well with this ensemble.

last but not least is this necklace. why is this necklace still in the store? if someone doesn't buy it soon, i will. that's both a threat and a promise. this necklace is not only Nikki's pick, it's also Brianne's pick. that's very important and you needed to know that.

*Gladys can be seen standing in the right window at modern/nostalgia. however, she is trying to get the day off tomorrow. if you need an up-close and personal visual, i highly recommend coming to see her today.

belts galore

nude heels and a black belt; basics that belong in every woman's closet, right? then please explain, Lucy, why it's so difficult to find these two basic human necessities a) at a good price, and b) as a quality product that isn't going to fall apart after you pretend you're Carrie Bradshaw, prancing effortlessly in heels daily around Buffalo, i mean Manhattan (apparently i haven't learned my lesson yet against the synthetic upper).

back to modern/nostalgia. we do not have shoes yet. however, we have belts. lots of them. in great shapes, sizes, and the rare, hard-to-find color black. prices range from $22-$45.

oh, and please don't be jealous of the amazing photography that is happening here. with a Canon Powershot and a steady hand, you too can take beautiful candids of your wardrobe.

not your grandmother's handbag (but maybe once was her favorite chair)

not only did we receive the clutches yesterday (see yesterday's post) but we also acquired these amazing numbers too. they're made with vintage furniture fabric as well, but these bags are reversible! flip them inside-out for a completely new look. each comes with a wallet clipped on, which can be removed. detailing is amazing and flawless. oh, and they're machine washable. only three left at modern/nostalgia!

hot handbags

today arrived our long-awaited bags by a designer from L.A. they're created from vintage fabric intended for furniture design in the 50s, 60s and 70s. the designer is the sole owner of this amazing stock of fabrics (meaning no one else can copy these beautiful pieces!) since it was intended for everyday use, the fabric is extremely durable and well-made. i only wish my couch was as fun and inspiring as these bags!

pictured below are the amazingly priced clutches ($70 each), and there is exciting detail inside as well as out. each one has a removable leather strap and a zippered pocket inside. made in the USA by Kim White. five unique styles available at modern/nostalgia.
